The Story Behind “The Most Beautiful Girl”

Last summer, I sat down with Bart Herbison, Executive Director of the Nashville Songwriters Association International. My interview for “The Story Behind the Song” was published in this past Sunday’s Nashville Tennessean. Thought you’d be interested in reading.

Keep writing. – Rory

Hi Rory: I am amazed that I’m writing to the person who wrote “Behind Closed Doors” and “Beautiful Girl.” I suppose every women in the world identified with both these songs. “Beautiful Girl” was a song that made you feel beautiful whether you were or not! “Behind Closed Doors” had it all. Especially when you visualized your own relationship behind closed doors. So, Rory, you did a whole lot for the female gender when you came up with those songs. But that’s not the real reason I’m writing:. I want to know the story behind “A little good news today” recorded by Anne Murray. I just listened to it again (I’ve heard it a million times!) and if the words were changed only a little it applies to everything that is going on today in our world. You had it all in the 1983 version and you could be talking about today just as well. Please let me know what possessed you and the other writers to write these memorable and timeless lyrics? Thank you, Sherry
